Maine Tree Growth Tax Program -

Approved forester to develop a Wood-Wise Forest Management Plan. This state program offers cost-sharing assistance for forest management planning, providing a description of the landowner's forestland values and develop activities to reach targeted objectives to maintain & improve your woods.

What is Maine Tree Growth Tax Program?
The Maine Tree Growth Tax Program was enacted by the Maine Legislature in 1972 to encourage landowners to keep their property as productive forest land. The incentive is a significant reduction in land taxes due to much lower valuation rates per acre. For example, under Tree Growth Management, land that might have a valuation of $800 per acre of more by the Town could decrease to under $170 per acre.
To enroll in the Maine Tree Growth Tax Program, a landowner must own ten (10) or more acres of forest land in Maine and manage that land for multiple-use forestry goals. To apply for this program, a landowner must submit a Tree-Growth Application consistent with the Forest Management Plan prepared & signed by a Maine Licensed Forester.
